Book Beginning and Friday 56: Defy Me (Shatter Me #5) by Tahereh Mafi || Friday 50/50: Favorite/Least Favorite Book w/a Pink Cover

Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

I hadn't planned on reading this one next, but I was on the waiting list from my library for it and with it being an eBook, it was automatically borrowed. These books are quick reads, so there's a chance I'll be done with it by Monday. The titles for these books are just getting more and more ridiculous though.

Synopsis:
Juliette’s short tenure as the supreme commander of North America has been an utter disaster. When the children of the other world leaders show up on her doorstep, she wants nothing more than to turn to Warner for support and guidance. But he shatters her heart when he reveals that he’s been keeping secrets about her family and her identity from her—secrets that change everything.
Juliette is devastated, and the darkness that’s always dwelled within her threatens to consume her. An explosive encounter with unexpected visitors might be enough to push her over the edge.

Book Beginning:
Kenji
She's just screaming.
She's just screaming words, I think. They're just words. But she's screaming, screaming at the top of her lungs, with an agony that seems almost an exaggeration, and it's causing devastation I never knew possible. It's like she just -- imploded.

Friday 56:
"It means absolutely not. That girl is done. She's gone. No more afternoon specials with your buddies from Omega Point. No more running around naked with your little girlfriend. No more sex in the afternoon when you should be working."

50/50 Friday is a new weekly link-up hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books.  Every week they have a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts' blogs.

Favorite and Least Favorite book with a Pink Cover

I had to search deep in my read books on Goodreads. I haven't read many books with Pink covers, and only a handful that has a majority of pink.

Favorite
Sci-fi(ish) Retelling of Snow White.
Dwarves of Calcus by Katie Hamstead is the third book in the Fairytale Galaxy Chronicles. I think there's going to be more. And I sure hope so, these are really entertaining books.

Least
The Iron Queen was just 'meh' for me. I didn't hate it, but I didn't really love it either.

  2. The Julie Kagawa books weren't especially well-written, I thought, so I stopped the series after the first book. I see you didn't care much for them either. My Friday quotes

  3. Sorry you aren't enjoying your book much this week.

Doing a GoodReads search for covers is a clever solution to the problem of finding pink ones. I'll have to remember that!
