Synopsis:
When the ancient evil of the Blackbringer rises to unmake the world, only one determined faerie stands in its way. However, Magpie Windwitch, granddaughter of the West Wind, is not like other faeries. While her kind live in seclusion deep in the forests of Dreamdark, she's devoted her life to tracking down and recapturing devils escaped from their ancient bottles, just as her hero, the legendary Bellatrix, did 25,000 years ago. With her faithful gang of crows, she travels the world fighting where others would choose to flee. But when a devil escapes from a bottle sealed by the ancient Djinn King himself- the creator of the world- she may be in over her head. How can a single faerie, even with the help of her friends, hope to defeat the impenetrable darkness of the Blackbringer?

Book Beginning:
The wolf tasted the babe's face with the tip of his tongue and pronounced her sweet, the fox licked the back of her head to see if it was so.

Friday 56:
She'd caught that first devil by trapping it in sunlight with only its bottle to escape into or perish in the light.

Q: What's your opinion on love triangle plots?

A: It depends. I've seen it done, well. But more often it's done in a way where it's not even really a triangle, and not only is it clear who the author is going to have end up together, but also who they want the readers to want to end up together. And even then they aren't "real" triangles. Because to two (usually boys) who are supposed to be competing for the affection of the one (usually a girl) hate each other.

  1. I need to read more fantasy, it's been a serious imagination drought lately on my bookshelf! And faeries are definitely a new topic to me, so maybe I should give this one a try! And that's a good point about the love triangles I hadn't even considered; those two boys hardly ever want anything to do with each other xDI hope you have a lovely start to the weekend and do drop by my Friday postif you have the time! - Juli @ A Universe in Words

  3. Oooh, that opening line is fantastic! I wouldn't expect anything less from Laini Taylor, though. I hadn't heard of this book before, but I'm definitely going to need to check it out.

  4. Sounds like a whimsical and fun, but dark fantasy! I like that though! :-) Happy weekend!

  6. I am definitely intrigued by that book beginning! And I completely agree with what you said about love triangles. It's usually very obvious who we are supposed to be cheering for, and then it just gets annoying. I avoid them now.

  7. Great first line. It roped me right in. Seems very visual, like a movie unfolding.

As for love triangles, they are annoying when it is so obvious who is going to end up together.
