This was a fun topic, but I had a hard time picking books. I read a lot of fantasy, and even though I also try to read less mainstream books, a lot of the same themes and tropes are still used. Covers are linked to their Goodreads page, I could only think of nine.
If you know any books that are similar to these, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Standalone fantasy, there needs to be more standalone fantasy.
There was just something intensely weird about this book that I just loved. It's a trilogy, so in that way, there is more. But I'd like more by other authors to not be scared to go weird with their fantasy. This is also dystopian, technically.
Whimsical Middle-Grade. I tried reading Percy Jackson years ago, and I didn't get this kind of whimsy. (I do plan on giving PJ another go. Maybe I will get that on a re-read when I'm not being overly critical from being a nerd who read a lot of mythology books when I was a tween because that series didn't exist at the time.)
A story with fae that doesn't have a romantic-centered plot. (there is a romance, but it's not the center of the plot)
This one is also weird, but a different kind of weird than Marrow Charm is. I don't know how to explain it. This is an Urban Fantasy.
I kind of hate the title, but this is a series actually, that takes that tattooed guy in contemporary romance, and removes the douchebag from it. This is a series with 5 brothers, who are all respect women and aren't creepy, possessive, and controlling. Gone is that annoying and tired trope of the jerk who somehow wins the heart of a nice girl. These men earn and deserve the love of the women they care about, by being good people. (bare minimum I know, but a lot of NewAdult contemporary romance has a jerk of a man as the main love interest) Can more male love interests be good and kind people, please?
This is a gender-flipped retelling of Beowulf. And I want more like this. The author has a spin-off called Seven Endless Forests, and all I know about it is that it's Arthurian-inspired, but I don't know if it's gender-flipped like this one.
I’ve heard great things about Nevermoor!

I just started The Poppy War the other day, I've heard great things, so I hope I enjoy it as much as you did.

Yes, to Marrow Charm and Poppy War - but I don't know if my heart could take it!
