Top Ten Tuesday: Thankful Freebie: Books by Indigenous Authors I want to Read

I've been reflecting this past year, and it made me realize how sad it makes me that my family all but ignored our Indigenous heritage. All I can assume is the when and where my grandmother and her family grew up (Virginia around 1920-1940) it was just safer to pretend not to be. But with so little known about the other aspects of my heritage I just wish I knew more about the Indigenous part. So this week I'm sharing some books by Indigenous authors I'd like to read. This list is in no particular order.

  1. A lovely tribute Marie! Firekeeper's Daughter catches my attention, so does Race to the sun.

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  2. A great list.

My mum is doing her side of the family history and we have found all sorts of things - it is so interesting to learn new things about the family. It can be quite sad and emotional though.

    Have a great week!

  3. I love your take on this week's topic. I've got the first four on my TBR (although I'm a little nervous to read Graham Jones' books cos I'm a scaredy cat lol) but I've heard great things about all of them!

  4. A bunch of these are on my TBR list too. I hope you're able to learn more about your heritage! I don't know much about my family history either.

  5. Fabulous idea. I absolutely loved Firekeeper's Daughter and added Race to the Sun to my TBR. Graham JOnes bk wasn't one of my favorites, but I'm glad I read it. Have a terrific week.

  6. Firekeeper's Daughter is a great example of the current situations for Indigenous people. Five Little Indians by Michelle Good is a great example of the history for many Indigenous people.

  7. I'm a genealogist and, if you're interested in doing research, I'd recommend checking out familysearch.org. It's completely free. You can find your ancestors in the shared family tree, see what records are already attached to your ancestors, and find more records (like census and Native American rolls) that can shed light on where your family members lived. If you need help, let me know. I'm happy to walk you through it.

THE FIREKEEPER'S DAUGHTER is a great read. I wonder when its author is going to publish again? I'd for sure read another one by her.

    Happy TTT!
