Synopsis:
A wedding planner left at the altar? Yeah, the irony isn't lost on Carolina Santos, either. But despite that embarrassing blip from her past, Lina's offered an opportunity that could change her life. There's just one hitch... she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials.
Marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. Then he learns he'll be working with his brother's whip-smart, stunning--absolutely off-limits--ex-fiancĂ©e. And she loathes him.
If they can nail their presentation without killing each other, they'll both come out ahead. Except Max has been public enemy number one ever since he encouraged his brother to jilt the bride, and Lina's ready to dish out a little payback of her own.
Soon Lina and Max discover animosity may not be the only emotion creating sparks between them. Still, this star-crossed couple can never be more than temporary playmates because Lina isn't interested in falling in love and Max refuses to play runner-up to his brother ever again.
Mia Sosa delivers a sassy, steamy #ownvoices enemies-to-lovers novel, perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, and Sally Thorne!

*************************

This was the light and fast-paced read I needed, even though the characters annoyed me for about half the book.

The writing was good, just that the characters in this situation were really frustrating. I didn't really root for their romance the way I think I was supposed to. They didn't really know each other that long, and spend half the time in a feud. Not exactly the best recipe, in my opinion, for a lasting relationship. She knew Max's brother for years, but only knew Max, it seems, from just before she was supposed to get married to his brother, to the month maybe month and a half they spent working together on the job pitch project.

I know this is the whole basis for the romance aspect of the book, and maybe it's just me, but I think it's really weird to get into any kind of relationship with the sibling of an ex. I know they are all adults, but it's just weird to me. I guess only slightly less weird because they weren't that close before the "runaway groom" situation, but I don't know... just strange.

I do like that the other part of the plot, the thing that forces these estranged people to be forced to work together in the first place was still an active part of the book. It was something that was presented to part of the book, only for everything to just turn into them not doing anything for this project that was a huge aspect of Lina's character.

Since I like the writing of this book, I will be reading more of her work, this just wasn't a romance that I could 100% get behind. This is also just a "Happy for now", which is more reasonable.
