Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

Synopsis:
Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. By age twenty, in fact, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicides. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most elite universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?
Still searching for answers to this herself, Alex arrives in New Haven tasked by her mysterious benefactors with monitoring the activities of Yale’s secret societies. These eight windowless “tombs” are well-known to be haunts of the future rich and powerful, from high-ranking politicos to Wall Street and Hollywood’s biggest players. But their occult activities are revealed to be more sinister and more extraordinary than any paranoid imagination might conceive.

Book Beginning:
By the time Alex managed to get the blood out of her good wool coat, it was too warm to wear it.

Friday 56:
"A true gentleman doesn't boast of the title, and a true scholar has better uses for his time than downing flaming Dr Pepper shots."

Q: Do you have a pet peeve about books?

A: Yes, I don't like when books by the same publisher are different heights, I don't like when books don't number all the books on the spine, I hate it when books have a cover change mid-series and then never come out in Hardback with the new covers.

  7. I really enjoyed this book when I read it in the spring. It was going to be a part of our 'battle of the books' trivia contest, but the contest was canceled this year (after I read the book and a couple others. LOL). Thanks for sharing and enjoy your week!
