Synopsis:
Leila Tūs Salvatíraas, Savior of Thessen and magical Queen of Her realm, is worshiped by all.
Except Her father. He wants Her dead.
The Sovereign’s Tournament—a centuries-long tradition designed to select The Savior’s husband—is days away, but Brontes’s plan to overthrow his daughter ignites, shifting the objective of the competition from marriage to murder.
With the help of Her sisters and some unexpected allies, Leila must unravel Brontes’s network and prevent Her own assassination. But as the body count rises, She learns the deception runs far deeper than She imagined.
When She finds Herself falling for one of the tournament competitors, Her father finds himself another target for murder.
Can Leila save Herself and Her beloved, or is their untimely end—and the corruption of Her realm—inevitable?

This was the book I needed to break me out of my mental funk. I loved Leila in book one and getting to see the other side of things was a great way to open up the world and explain the things I was unclear on in the first book. Namely, the magic and where it comes from. That is explained so well in this book, and I loved learning what was offered about it.

While this is the tournament from book one, but from Leila's POV, there were still several scenes that were not in the first book, things we didn't get to see or hear from Tobias's POV. Because he wasn't there to see or hear them. Most of the scenes were new, we got to see more sides to some characters that I wanted to know more about. And I gotta say, I kind of hate them more now than I did in book one.

Lelia is one of my new top ten favorite female characters. She doesn't pull her punches, she is compassionate and fierce. While she's had to do things she's not proud of, and she worries that her actions have hardened her heart. The fact that she worries about that shows that she is still very kind-hearted. I am very excited for what's to come with her character.

The romance in this series is honestly one of the best I have ever read. It's not instant, it's not even instant attraction, it's a slow burn built on respect for each other. It's just so dang healthy, and more romances, especially in books, need to show what healthy relationships look like. Yes, Leila wasn't forthcoming on who she was. But, considering her situation it's hard to fault her for that.

Cosima is probably the worst, I mean, I know her father wants her dead. But Cosima is the definition of manipulative. I hope she gets what's coming to her. Delphi is a favorite, I love how loyal she is. The opposite of Cosima in every way. I like Pippa, but she's kind of just there. I see how her character is needed, she's purely innocent and I hope she stays safe.

I am very excited to read book three and see where the path takes them, and how they defeat her enemies.
