This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.
Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
Synopsis:
The queen has returned.
Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…
She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.
She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.
Book Beginning:
There was a thing waiting in the darkness.
It was not of this world, and had been brought here to fill him with its primordial cold. Some invisible barrier still separated them, but the wall crumbled a little more every time the thing stalked along its length, testing its strength.
Thoughts:
I am so excited to finally be reading this book. I was super bummed I had to wait.

"You look like a man who got punched in the balls," she said at last.
Thoughts:
HA, I love the dialog in this series. Aelin is so sassy. :D
I've only read the first book so far - I need to keep going! :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings).
I actually have the first two books in the series, but I just haven't gotten to them yet.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is STILL on my TBR list! I'm hoping to get to them sometime within the next decade or so ;)
ReplyDeleteI am definitely curious about the series. Glad you are enjoying it, and thanks for sharing. Here's mine: “THE BLACK WIDOW”
ReplyDeleteI've heard so much about this series! I really should read it. The beginning definitely makes me curious about that "thing."
ReplyDeleteMy Friday post features The Mirror.
This one is still waiting on my TBR mountain. Unfortunately it arrived the same time a stack of review books arrived. I have a fairy tale this week - The Amaranth Enchantment by Julie Berry. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteSounds intriguing. I'll have to check it out.
Have a great day!
Happy Reading!!

My Book Beginnings
I definitely need to go ahead and read the 2nd and 3rd book in the series. I read the first one and liked it, but I keep hearing the series gets better and better. Great post!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to read the Novella bind up, The Assassin's Blade. I read the Novellas before starting the series, but you don't really need to. Although it is a great way to know Celaena before her time in the Salt mines.
DeleteLOL I love this book and characters already! I've heard nothing but good and I enjoy snark and humor in the books I read. It's almost a requirement now.
