Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I Have DNF'd

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

I don't like DNFing books, especially books I've spent money on, or a book I was really looking forward to that failed me. Considering how many books I have read, in comparison I've finished more books than not. This is actually only half the books I've DNF'd. Im choosing the ones that were the worst of the worst for me.

I did not make it far into this book. The story was so predictable and exactly like an other book I read. Then there were the characters, I hated all of them.

I had been looking for this book for like, 3 years. I finally found it in eBook form for I think a dollar, and it was just a bucket of crap.  I wanted this book to be a great faerie book, but it just wasn't.

Another book I was looking forward to but ended up hating and unable to finish. Once again, I hated all the characters, the dialog was painful to read and the plot didn't make any sense. I know a lot of people loved this book and if you did I am sorry, but I hated it.

This one, I might actually come back to at a later date. I think the problem I had with it, was people were saying how much better it was than Red Queen, a book that I really enjoyed. So I was expecting more from this book than what I got. This was kind of the only one that I didn't hate anything in, but just lot interest.

Okay, this book I think was the one that pissed me off the most. It sounded awesome on Netgalley, a mystery, a floating Utopian city...
but what I got was a story about CARNIVOROUS CORN. That is what broke me on the story and made me so furious I could barely think.

This was another book that I quit because I lost interest. The story was moving at a dead snails pace, and the characters were pretty one dimensional and a little more cliche than I like.

This book had so much potential, and it seriously dropped the ball. It had a great start, but when we constantly are getting told how amazing the MC is, it got real boring, real fast.

This book I quit on because it was just so damned confusing. I couldn't make heads or tails of anything. I have no idea if this book is good or not.

Overly wordy book, that really said nothing at all. Then there was the overly heavy christain themes that, for me, took away from the story. I have a really hard time reading christian fantasy, it's kind of an oxymoron.

I had high hopes for this book, I thought it was a book about Dragons, and science, some kind of awesome mash up of the two. But, from what I read, all I got was some weird dialog, a very confusing premise, and very forgettable characters.

  1. I need to make a list of all the books I failed to finish. Not that I plan to try again!

    Here's my list!

  2. I heard great things about Red Rising.
I own The Red Queen, I picked it up but I wasn't in the mood to read it so I stopped a few pages into it.

  4. I really wanted to dnf Red Queen but since it was a loan from a friend I felt obliged to finish it. I'm not really in the habit of not finishing books I start. Most of the time I feel the urge to finish a book I'm not enjoying, just to finish it. I should really stop doing that, I guess...

  5. It sucks when you look forward to a book and it turns out to be horrible. It's kind of like getting your favorite food at a restaurant and finding out that it tastes disgusting.

  6. A couple of these I want to read! Especially The Queen of the Tearling. And I get what you mean when you look forward to a book and it isn't what you expected. I felt that way with An Ember in the Ashes. I was very disappointed.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  7. Great list! I completely get what you what you mean about Tearling. I enjoyed it enough or I am curious enough to read more. But it was 100% not at all what I was expecting from the description. I was more disappointed with book two though. At this point there is one thing I want an answer to so I'll read book three.

  8. I've got to create an abandoned board on Goodreads. Right now I'd have to think really hard to come up with 10 books that I DNF. I think when I abandon a book I try to block it out of my mind. ;-)

(Sidenote the cover for Grave Mercy is amazing! Too bad that book wasn't.)

My Top Ten Tues Freebie week is on the most frustrating characters.
