I'd been anticipating this book since I read the first book. While I enjoyed this book thoroughly, and finished it in 2 days, I did feel like the book wrapped up too quickly.
Most of this book was very fast paced, and there was little room for the characters to breathe. The tension was there, but there was never really a moment when I felt the characters were in any real danger, or doubted they'd make it out together.
I will admit that, there were parts of the first book that I forgot that took me a little to remember to get reinvested in the supporting characters. This book was rather predictable, and sometimes when I can guess a story's trajectory I don't mind because that's just classic story beats. But the betrayal in this one was just too predictable, and the motive didn't make sense to me.
Plot-wise I am happy with most everything in this book, but it feels about 50 pages too short. It kind of just ends? Things aren't as wrapped up as I wish they had been. The first half of the books makes a big deal out of Imogen being Queen of two realms, but we never get to see her rule any of them in this book. She was just Queen in name only. The ending was just a little underwhelming.
I will read more by this author. I love the way she crafts a story.
