This is classically called "Mid-year freak out" but, state of the world stuff prevents me from freaking out about something as mundane as my reading habits this year. I last did this in 2019, which is wild. I thought I'd done it more recently. Time has no meaning anymore.
Best book you’ve read so far this year
Hard to pick just one, so I'm going to pick one from each catagory
Non-Fiction - The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander
Manga - Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Vol. 12 by Kanehito Yamada
Novel - Sunbringer by Hannah Kaner

Best sequel you've read so far this year
Cozy Political FantasyRomance, yes please.
New release you haven't read yet, but want to
There's a few, but this is one I'd like to get to soonest
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
This one is actually coming out very soon, the 25th of June. I have it on pre-hold at the library. But I don't know when I'll actually get to it.
Biggest disappointment
I really liked the first book, and the other series by this author. But something about this book fell flat for me.
Biggest surprise
It surprised me how much I ended up enjoying it. I thought it was going to be a little dumb, but it was pretty good.
Favorite new author
I've read a number of her books by now, and I like how she writes relationships. I also like her youtube channel, I recommend checking it out.
Newest favorite male lead
Cenric from Tears of the Wolf series
He has good balance of grumpy with a heart of gold.
Or
Remin from Empire of Stars series
He has some trauma that leads him to have trust issues, but does the work to get through it
Newest favorite character
Either Fern from Frieren, or MaoMao from The Apothecary Diaries
They are both great characters in different ways

Book that made you cry
I haven't read any books this year that have made me cry. Gotten close a couple of times, but no tears.
Book that made you happy
I've gotten a lot of laughs while reading Dandadan this year. It's also pretty intense at times as well.
Most beautiful book you've bought so far this year (or received)
I found this very fancy copy at Target early in the year.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year
Too many to count. I have been really bad about reading the books I own, and still just keep getting books from the library.
