Book Beginnings | Friday 56 | Friday 50/50 | Blogger Hop || Shadowsong (Wintersong #2) by S. Jae-Jones || Favorite/Least Favorite Movie Adaptation

Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

I haven't had any new reads to share. Took too long getting through Assassin's Apprentice, just wasn't really in the mood to read as much, and I actually have less time to read these days.

Synopsis:
Six months after the end of Wintersong, Liesl is working toward furthering both her brother’s and her own musical careers. Although she is determined to look forward and not behind, life in the world above is not as easy as Liesl had hoped. Her younger brother Josef is cold, distant, and withdrawn, while Liesl can’t forget the austere young man she left beneath the earth, and the music he inspired in her.
When troubling signs arise that the barrier between worlds is crumbling, Liesl must return to the Underground to unravel the mystery of life, death, and the Goblin King—who he was, who he is, and who he will be. What will it take to break the old laws once and for all? What is the true meaning of sacrifice when the fate of the world—or the ones Liesl loves—is in her hands?

Book Beginning:

My dearest Sepperl,
They say it rained when Mozart died.

Friday 56:
He is both man and monster.
His faded eyes held color once, a mismatched blue and gray-green, but now they are pale, so pale his pupils are but a pinprick in a sea of white.

50/50 Friday is a new weekly link-up hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books.  Every week they have a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts' blogs. (currently on hiatus)

This week's topic is Favorite/Least Favorite Movie/Show Adaptation

Favorite
There are some small changes, characters left out entirely. But this works so well because Anne Rice wrote the screenplay. So those changes are hers, and ones that she felt could be left out and altered to help it flow better as a movie. Claudia was also aged up quite a bit, from a 5-year old to a 12-year old. A change that if  you've read the book and watched the movie makes complete sense.

Least
The Shadowhunters Show.
The movie wasn't great, it had flaws, but the show took so many liberties with the source material, it could hardly be called an adaptation. I only watched the first season and a handful of season two. But that was enough to make me stop. I liked some of the casting choices better for the show (mostly Magnus and Alec). The rest were ranged from 'meh' to not right for the role, in my opinion.
(Also why TF was Clary taller than Izzy?... I mean, what?)

Q: Do you bring along books when you go on a vacation?

A: I did when was a teen and went on vacations with my family... usually places I didn't really want to go to. Now as an adult, I don't have the time/finances to go on vacation and when we (me, my husband, and our son) do go places for a day trip I spend it with them

  3. Magnus in the show was so much better than the movie and the same goes for Alex.

  4. It's been a few years since we've had a holiday but we have stay-cations. ;-) I do love sitting in my back garden reading. Of course, we're lucky our daughters are now 17 and 15 and they like to read as much as I do. We've also got Hubby reading since lockdown!
