Book Beginning | Friday 56 | Friday 50/50 | Blogger Hop | Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) by Sarah J. Maas || Best/Worst Read of January 2020

Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

So, I'm finally reading this book. I put off reading this book because of how much I dislike Chaol. It's okay so far. There's some interesting characters. Though so far I don't know what connection this has to the main series right now, if there even is one. Hopefully, there is otherwise I wasted money on this book (it's a discount copy, but still).

A glorious empire . . .
A desperate quest . . .
Chaol Westfall and Nesryn Faliq have arrived in the shining city of Antica to forge an alliance with the Khagan of the Southern Continent, whose vast armies are Erilea's last hope. But they have also come to Antica for another purpose: to seek healing at the famed Torre Cesme for the wounds Chaol received in Rifthold.
After enduring unspeakable horrors as a child, Yrene Towers has no desire to help the young lord from Adarlan, let alone heal him. Yet she has sworn an oath to assist those in need—and will honor it. But Lord Westfall carries shadows from his own past, and Yrene soon comes to realize they could engulf them both.
In this sweeping parallel novel to the New York Times bestselling Empire of Storms, Chaol, Nesryn, and Yrene will have to draw on every scrap of their resilience if they wish to save their friends. But while they become entangled in the political webs of the khaganate, deep in the shadows of mighty mountains where warriors soar on legendary ruks, long-awaited answers slumber. Answers that might offer their world a chance at survival—or doom them all .

Book Beginning:
Chaol Westfall, former Captain of the Royal Guard and now Hand to the newly crowned King of Adarlan, had discovered that he hated one sound above all others.

Friday 56:
He and Nesryn had never been good at talking. They'd tried, usually with disastrous results.

50/50 Friday is a new weekly link-up hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books.  Every week they have a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts' blogs.

This week's topic is Best and Worst read in January 2020. I had a pretty even mix of Good, Great, meh, and bad books that I read/finished in January. 7 whole books in January.

I almost chose King of Thorns, but I want to hype this book up.

It was hard to follow, 5-POV's, that often switched midchapter.
It made it hard to care about the characters.

Q: What is your opinion of bibliotherapy? Do you think this is a useful way of dealing with psychological issues? If you've used it yourself, or know someone who has, what book(s) would you recommend?

A: I have no idea what that is, this is the first time I've ever heard of it. So I don't have an opinion.

  1. I still haven't started The Throne of Glass series. I have heard a lot about it, and I like the quotes you picked. Enjoy your current read!

  2. I'm a teensy bit ashamed to admit that I've never read a Sarah J. Maas book? I really need to rectify that soon. But I love the opening and the snippet of this one! The dry humor seems right up my alley. :3

    Here's my Friday post.

  3. I really need to read Blood Heir next!!!!

Thanks for linking up and have an amazing weekend!

  4. I believe this is the next book I have to read. :-) Happy weekend!
