They came against her as a child. Now they face the woman.
The ice is advancing, the Corridor narrowing, and the empire is under siege from the Scithrowl in the east and the Durns in the west. Everywhere, the emperor’s armies are in retreat.
Nona Grey faces the final challenges that must be overcome if she is to become a full sister in the order of her choice. But it seems unlikely that she and her friends will have time to earn a nun’s habit before war is on their doorstep.
Even a warrior like Nona cannot hope to turn the tide of war.
The shiphearts offer strength that she might use to protect those she loves, but it’s a power that corrupts. A final battle is coming in which she will be torn between friends, unable to save them all. A battle in which her own demons will try to unmake her.
A battle in which hearts will be broken, lovers lost, thrones burned.

Review:

What a fantastic ending to the series. To put into words, and not spoil things, for how amazing this series is, might be a challenge. But I will try.

First off, Nona is the best character ever written. Hands down, and I will fight anyone who says differently.
Her journey is one of my favorites. In the first book, she is this small angry child of 10, and she is ready to burn the world to the ground if it means getting revenge on her enemies. But her character growth. I just love it.

This book is told in alternating timelines, "The Present" and "Three Years Ago". The three-years ago pick up where the second book left off. I have seen other books do something similar, and it ruins the book. In those books, things were over-explained and repetitive, and things were often spoiled. That didn't happen in this book. I was left wondering. While there was no mystery that Nona made it back alive, that was never something that needed to be worried about since the first book starts with her in a flash-forward as an adult. (I try to no spoil things, but with this being the third book, that's almost impossible) And the events that start the first book take place in this book's present. It was a nice full-circle moment.

This book was really intense, and I kept wondering who was going to be left alive at the end, and how things were going to be resolved. I never really knew what to expect next. I had to resist the urge to skip ahead and read the ending because I was so impatient to find out what was coming.

I don't really want to say more, because I just want you all to read this series. It is so, so good. Now I need to read all of Mr. Lawrence's other books.
