This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.
Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.
Synopsis:
Experience the epic love story of OBSIDIAN as told by its hero, Daemon Black…
I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.
And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.
But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can't stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.
Falling for Katy—a human—won't just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen...
Book Beginning:
Faster than any human eye could track, I moved soundlessly among the trees in my true form, racing over the thick grass and the dewy, moss-covered rocks.
Thoughts:
I am so excited to have to gotten this book, I love this series and I always loved reading her bonus scenes written from Daemon's POV and all his parts from later books.
My 56:
"The only reason why the DOD lets you believe your big bad secret is hidden is because they know what you can do to humans, " he explained. "And we're what they care about."
Thoughts:
It is so much fun reading this series from Daemon's perspective. I'm not quite this far into the book yet, but I'm sure by the evening I will be.
I have been wanting to read this series, I love the sound of it. Once I get my steampunk fix I am going to give this series a try.
ReplyDeleteI take it the main character isn't human or he couldn't move faster than the human eye can track and soundlessly.
ReplyDeleteMy Friday Quotes
Interesting opening. I'm curious about this extra-terrestrial.
ReplyDeleteMy Friday post features FEVER SEASON.
Interesting! I'm curious about what the non-human is and what he can do that's so great. Moving faster than the human eye can track sounds like a nice ability to have! Enjoy your reading!
ReplyDeleteI haven't started this series yet but I do want to read it and this sounds really good! Here's my Friday post
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great book. Enjoy!
Have a great day!
I've read the first book in this series but, for some reason, never carried on with it. I'm sure I'd have to start over if I wanted to read the series now. It does sound good though. This week I am spotlighting The Royal Ranger by John Flanagan and Once Shadows Fall by Robert Daniels. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI remember reading this series a long time ago. So Oblivion seems like something I might want to read.
ReplyDeleteI recently finished the first book and had a great time with it. I plan to read this next. Then move on in the series.

You should finish the series first then come back to this one. Other wise a lot of things will be spoiled for you.
DeleteOoohh I need this one... though I still have to read Oblivion. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I've read the first book in this series, and I'm still debating if I want to continue it.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings).
Personally I recommend continuing the series. It has a lot of really funny dialog and I really do enjoy the characters and the story.
DeleteMaybe I am alone, but the first book really reminded me of Roswell, that show from the late 90's-early 00's.
I have Jennifer on my reading list and this does sound like a good one and a series I need to get started on.
