Vampire Love Story #1 |
"Josiah Reign is an up-and-coming mixed martial arts fighter who’s never said no to a fight in his life. Tonight is no different. Out for a simple jog, he happens upon a young woman who needs help. So Josiah does what he does best. He takes on her attackers...all five of them, in fact. Little does Josiah know that this one act of goodwill will introduce him to a very strange world, a world of dreams...and nightmares. For this woman, Lena is not who she seems, and her friends are the stuff of legends. Worst yet, Josiah finds himself falling for not one, but two of these deadly creatures of the night. And as Josiah suffers a devastating loss that rocks his world, he will fight for what he believes in. And fighting is what Josiah does best."
This is an interesting book. It's a romance novel, written by a man, which is something that I never would expect. It is certainly different from adult romance novels written my women. I'm not entirely sure what is keeping me from enjoying this book completely. I mean the characters are pretty well written, the story itself wasn't bad. The only thing left is that this book was just not what I expected it to be.
The main character, Josiah Reign is an MMA fighter. He's confident without being a cocky ass. One night while out for a jog to train for his next fight he helps a girl he knew from high school get away from a group of drunk frat boys, and gets sucked into a world he didn't believe existed. Lena, the girl from high school has a group of friends that Josiah thinks are a bit dramatic in how they behave. They dress in all black in what Josiah refers to as goth. One member of the group captures Josiah's attention. Her name is Yari and is tall with long sleek black hair, and she oozes sexy in Josiah's book.
The story takes place over the course of a couple of months. And over that time he slowly falls for both Lena and Yari. Lena for her innocent nature and the ease in his ability to open up to her, and Yuri for the exact opposite reasons. After a handful of weird interactions with Lena's friends they slowly reveal themselves as Vampires, or "Mani". And after Tommy, Josiah's best friend, and housemate, is Murdered after his MMA match. Josiah finds out that it was Lena's boyfriend, Atticai who did it because Tommy was actually a Carni, or Werewolf, and didn't like that he took part in human professional sports. The reason that bothers him isn't exactly 100% clear. Well anyways, Josiah finds out more secrets the vampires are keeping, and shenanigans ensue.
In a way, this book would have been better without the addition of Vampires and Werewolves. Dont get me wrong, I did like the book. It just felt like there was something missing I may or may not read the rest of the series, it was good but not so good that it bothers me to finish the series.
