Friday 56 and Book Beginning: Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young || Friday 50/50: Best/Worst Book Read in February

This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

Synopsis:
OND ELDR. BREATHE FIRE.
Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient, rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: fight and survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield—her brother, fighting with the enemy—the brother she watched die five years ago.
Faced with her brother's betrayal, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every battle scar possibly one she delivered. But when the Riki village is raided by a ruthless clan thought to be a legend, Eelyn is even more desperate to get back to her beloved family.
She is given no choice but to trust Fiske, her brother’s friend, who sees her as a threat. They must do the impossible: unite the clans to fight together, or risk being slaughtered one by one. Driven by a love for her clan and her growing love for Fiske, Eelyn must confront her own definition of loyalty and family while daring to put her faith in the people she’s spent her life hating.

Book Beginning:
"They're coming."
I looked down the row of Aska hunched against each other, ducking behind the muddy hill. The fog sat on the field like a veil, but we could hear it. The blades of swords and axes brushing against armor vests.

My 56:
He let me go, reaching for Fiske and kissing the side of his face. The air hissed out as he pulled him into his arms. "I thought... we thought..." He shook his head. "We couldn't find your bodies."

50/50 Friday is a new weekly link-up hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books.  Every week they have a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts' blogs.

I had a pretty good reading month in February, so the worst book isn't actually bad, it's just not as good as the best book. Cover is linked to my review

  1. I am pretty confused by the quotes so I would have to read on to get the points clarified. My Friday Quotes from Wild Things

  2. It looks like you read some pretty interesting books in February. Song of Blood & Stone looks particularly interesting.

  6. Love the cover but am not sure about the quotes. I'm spotlighting Lake Silence by Anne Bishop - her latest set in the world of The Others. Happy reading!

  7. That's always such a great sign when you can barely even pick a worst book of the month because they were all so good! That sort of happened to me too this month (my worst book was one that I liked from an analysis point of view but not an enjoyment point of view) which is always nice. Song of Blood and Stone looks SO good though! I'm such a cover snob so half of that feeling comes from the GORGEOUS cover but the other half comes from the whole fantasy mission thing. Thanks for linking up, Marie!
