Friday 56 and Book Beginnings: The Blazing Bridge (The Blood Guard #3) by Carter Roy || Friday 50/50 Best/Worst Job from a Book

This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

Review for Book One | Book  Two

Synopsis:
Ronan Truelove’s best friend, scrappy smart aleck Greta Sustermann, has no idea that she is one of the thirty-six Pure souls crucial to the safety of the world. But Ronan’s evil father has figured it out—and he’s leading the Bend Sinister straight to Greta. If they capture her, she’ll suffer a fate far worse than mere death. But to get to Greta, they’re going to have to go through Ronan first.
Standing with Ronan are plucky hacker Sammy; witty, unkillable Jack Dawkins; and a sharp-tongued woman named Diz, who drives a dangerously souped-up taxi. One breathless close call after another leads to an ugly showdown: Ronan alone against his father, with the fate of Greta, his friends, and the entire world hanging in the balance. Will Ronan be able to rise up and prove once and for all that he has what it takes to join the Blood Guard?

Book Beginning:
Prologue
Again and again this summer, I found myself climbing up the side of a burning building.

56%:
Dawkins disappeared through the open doorway. I wasn't sure whether to follow or not. All I had was my ugly yellow vase.

*****

50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books.  Every week they have a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts' blogs.

Best:
Baker. I already love baking, doing that full time would be fun. Breads, cakes, pies; it would be great.

Worst:
Executioner. Not really digging the idea of doing that.

  4. I don't think I'd want to be an executioner either. But I also would make a terrible baker. I don't especially like cooking or baking, I'm afraid. :-(

I like the opening of The Blazing Bridge! Sounds like a fun read.

I hope you have a great weekend!

  6. Baker would be a wonderful choice!
Yeah... I don't think I could be an Executioner either.

  7. Yes! Being a baker would be so amazing. I'm currently obsessed with The Great British Baking Show (they have 3 seasons on Netflix) and it's my LIFE. I wish I had the time and patience to actually make all the tarts and pies and macaroons and soufflés and cakes! Thanks for linking up, Marie!
