Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Authors I Want to Meet

I am wary of the idea about meeting authors. I have heard stories about people meeting their favorite authors and it going poorly for some reason. They didn't really go into details, just that they had a bad experience. Maybe the author was having a bad day, I mean going on book tours can be stressful. Time crunches, there are a lot of factors that could cause a person to have a bad day they are still people after all. But there is still that thing that has been said many times "Don't meet your heroes." Yet, there are still some authors that I would like to meet, even though I am awkward AF, and know there is an 85% chance that I will have verbal diarrhea and embarrass myself. As normal, these are in no particular order.

Marie Lu - I love her books, so so much. I would just love to meet her and tell her how much I love her books. I also want to meet her because I have never met another person under the age of 65 with the same first name as me. I know about 3 people that have my first name as their middle name.

Marie Rutkoski - The Winner's trilogy put me in the biggest reading slump because of how sad the first two books made me. But I still loved them and would like to tell hers so. Also, again, I would just like to meet someone in my age group that shares my first name. I kind of want to ask both Marie's if they've ever had the issue I have where people always mispronounce my name.

(It's honestly ridiculous. I get called Mary and Maria a lot. My name isn't "exotic" at all so I don't know why people struggle.)

Samantha Shannon - She got published very young, and her book is very well written. There have been authors that have been published at a young age and their books, while popular, have a lot of grammatical issues, the world isn't very well fleshed out, they can be very painfully similar to other books that already exist. But Shannon's wasn't like that at all. She was 22 when The Bone Season was published and quite frankly, I was very impressed at how well everything is in that series.

Leigh Bardugo - Once again, an author that has some fantastic world-building in her books, I have yet to read Six of Crows, but based on the fantastic WB in the Grisha series, I know that series will have a great world, especially since I think it's supposed to kind of be in the same world. That's what I heard anyways.

Sarah J. Maas - Lately it seems like people aren't liking her books as much as they used to, but I still really love her books. I kind of had a small chance to meet her a couple years ago. She was doing a signing at the Powells that was kind of near the apartment I was living in at the time, but there were a lot of factors that prevented me from going.

Cassandra Clare - Her books might be nearing the "Beating a dead horse" stage with it being the same world over and over again. But her books kind of got me back into reading. And her books are kind of why I started blogging. I didn't know about them until I heard the movie was being made, so I borrowed them, the ones that were out at the time anyways, from the library. Got me back into reading. I had kind of hit a wall, I wanted to read but nothing was really appealing to me at the time.

R.L. Stine - Read his Fear Street books all through middle school, love those, could never get into Goosebumps I thought they were a little silly and not scary. I did a lot more leisure reading in Middle School than I did in High School, too much required reading in HS for me to spend time reading for funsies. I was a really slow reading back then, still kind of am, but not as bad.

J.K. Rowling - Because honestly, who wouldn't? Her books were the only books I read for fun in High School. I was 11 when the first HP book came out, but I come from a really religious family and at the time there was all that nonsense about the books teaching Witchcraft, so I wasn't allowed to read them. I actually didn't read them until after the first two movies came out, and by then I was in High School. A friend practically shoved the books in my face and told me I had to read them. I will forever be grateful to her for that.

Laini Taylor - I would gush forever at her for Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I love that trilogy, I love the adorable novella about Zuzana and Mik's first date. I would thank her for that wonderful series. I have yet to read the other books she's written, and the only reason I haven't is because they are so hard to find. Faeries of Dreamdark looks awesome, and I want to read it.

Brandon Sanderson - I have only read The Reckoner's series (well the first two so far), but he is such a good author. I don't think I have heard a single negative book review for one of his books. Maybe all the reviewers I follow share similar bookish interests as I do, but I only hear good things. He is also one of the most successful authors out there, just chatting with him on how he does it would be a treat.

  5. Ooh, J.K. Rowling is a good one. I've heard nothing but good things about her.

I have no idea what R.L. Stine would be like in person, but it would be interesting to meet him as well. He has such a vivid imagination.
