Top Ten Tuesday: Five Books I Wish Had More World Building

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

There are a lot more than five books I wish had more world building. But I am only doing five. I'm tired, my weekend was all about moving into our new place. (proud new homeowners here) But we didn't really have anyone that could help us, so it was just The Husband and I packing and moving everything. We gave our 4-year-old some super light things to carry into the U-Haul, but essentially it was just the two of us. We're still not 100% recovered.

There was a lot about this book that was pretty 'meh'. The setup of pretty much everything wasn't explained in a way that either made sense or was very interesting. Too much was left up in the air for me.

This book had so much potential, but it was written in a way that almost felt like you should already know what is going on. That you should already know how these intertwined worlds work.

Another book that had more potential that would have been better with better world building. This book had worldbuilding, it was just a little weak in my opinion.

A lot of unanswered questions, and boring characters. I had to re-read my review to see if I mentioned what era this book was supposed to be set in, or what similar era, and I don't see anything mentioning that. I remember nothing about this book beyond what I mention in my review.

This is why I don't like books with poor world building, they are always forgettable. Had to read my review again, but that was useless since I try and make my reviews as spoiler-free as possible. I remember nothing about this book.

  2. I haven't read any of these (although Frost Blood is on my TBR piles), but yes, I probably could have filled up endless lists with worlds that needed more world building (or at least better world building).

  4. I haven't read any of these, but one of my major pet peeves is when a book doesn't have enough world building so I definitely agree with everything you're saying.
