Friday 56 and Book Beginning: Storm (Stone Braide Chronicles #3) by Bonnie S. Calhoun

This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

Synopsis:
Now That Glade, Selah's Protecting Force, Is Gone, the Hunt Is On to Capture Her
Selah has survived the forces of both man and nature to reunite her family. But her happiness is short-lived as they are forced into a barren world of volcanic ash that conceals the storm boiling beneath. The clock is ticking and Selah's abilities are growing--along with the list of those out for her blood.
Selah feels unworthy of her status as a novarium and is tortured by the knowledge of lives lost to protect her. Her physical and mental abilities will tempt her to be reckless, but she must learn to wield such power responsibly. Time is running out as more lives are tragically cut short and the search for the Third Protocol takes Selah into lands that have fallen into legend. Can Selah follow the trail of ancient artifacts and finish the quest? Or have she and her companions pinned their hopes on nothing more than a fanciful story?
Calhoun's characters race headlong into an explosive combination of futuristic technology, age-old greed, and the sacrifices for love that drive them to impossible choices.

Book Beginning:
September 25
Selah launched herself from the back of the Air Wagon and landed with catlike grace in a crouch behind it. Her long, dark brown ponytail swung across her shoulders as she inspected the area side to side. Her breathing played catch-up to her runaway heartbeat. She had no fear for herself but was scared for her mother and Dane as they hid inside the vehicle.
Thoughts:
I legitimately have no memories of what happened in the last two books. It has been so long since I've read them. I might have to do a re-read of my review or skim the other books so I can remember why any of this is important.

My 56:
She forced her eyes open and raised her head. What happened? She looked around. Where was she? The room was narrow and long, with two beds built into a pale blue composite wall and a storage area along another wall. Lights snaked from the bulkhead on bendable wands. Selah laid her heavy head back to the pillow but forced her eyes to stay open.
Thoughts:
As I mentioned, I have few memories of this series. I remember really liking the other books, I just don't remember what happened. I should fix that before continuing.
