Friday 56 and Book Beginnings: Sweet Temptation (The Sweet Series #4) by Wendy Higgins

This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice
These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

Please join us over at RoseCityReader every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

I missed last week's Friday memes. I had a really busy week and I completely spaced on it until mid-afternoon on Saturday, then I just didn't really feel like posting one since I hadn't started any new books at that point anyways. I've also been in a small reading slump, it's passed which is nice.

Synopsis:
Bad boy Kaidan Rowe has never wanted for anything—money, popularity, musical talent…hot girls—but seducing them is part of his duty as a Nephilim, slave to the demon Dukes. As the son of the Duke of Lust, Kaidan has learned his father’s ways, becoming a master of passion, a manipulator of chemistry. Disobeying his father would mean certain death. Thankfully for Kaidan, he’s good at his job. And he enjoys it.
Until he meets Anna Whitt—smart, feisty, and inexplicably good—the one girl seemingly immune to his charms. The daughter of a guardian angel and a fallen one, she makes him wish for more than he could ever deserve.
Determined to save all the Neph from their dark lives, Anna joins forces with Kaidan to overcome the Dukes’ oppressive ways. In the light of her affections, Kaidan must undergo his toughest test of all, a battle of the heart.
Sensual and swoon-worthy, this companion volume to the Sweet Evil series, told from the perspective of the mysterious Kaidan Rowe, gives readers revealing insights into the true emotions that drive him.

Book Beginning:
PROLOGUE
"Sit down son."
Young Kaidan did as his father asked, obediently sitting in the oversized leather chair beside him in the sitting room of their London home. Kai's stomach buzzed with nervousness. He rarely had his father's full attention, so he felt heavy and exposed under his intense stare.
Thoughts:
Kind of a boring opening if I wasn't already really invested in the characters of this book. As an extra book to the series from the POV of a character I really love and is possibly one of the most complex characters, I was really excited to read this book when I first heard about it but only just now got around to reading it.

My Friday 56:
"Give me your knife," she says.
"What?" What's she going to do with it?
"Just give it to me," she demands.
Oh, bloody hell. "No, Anna, I don't know what you're trying to do, but this is ridic-"
Anna comes at me, and next thing I know I feel myself going backward and down. I land hard on my back with Anna looking down at me.
Thoughts:
This is one of my favorite parts of the original series. It's a pretty amusing part.

  3. I know about reading slumps. I just finished a book today which I started in February. Ugh. I just couldn't make myself read it. Hope this book holds your attention and helps propel you out of the slump.

  4. Sounds like she isn't willing to take "no" for an answer! I like strong female characters, so this is a book I'd probably like.
