Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Fairytale Retellings I've Read/Want To Read

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
To take part, just pick your top ten, and add the link here.
This is a list of the re-tellings that I have read. There's about a half and half of YA and New Adult books.

Young Adult Books

Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay - This one was marked as a Sleeping Beauty retelling, but it;s more about her kids, but the Daughter's name is Aurora, and her mother was just called "Beauty".

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge - My most recent one, and another Beauty and the Beast tale. It was... interesting. The verdict is still out on if I actually liked it or not.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer - Most of us will know what this is about. For those that dont, it's a Cinderella retelling, with Cyborgs, and Moon people. (To keep things as vague as possible)

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer - Continuation of Cinder, but adding characters that make up a Red Riding Hood retelling. Scarlet is searching for her Grandmother who has been kidnapped.

Cress by Marissa Meyer - The covers, kind of giveaway who the story is adding. This adds a character to the story that makes up a Rapunzel story. Cress is a hacker that lives in a space station between the Moon and Earth.

New Adult books

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas - Beauty and the Beast retelling, and seems to be the most popular tale to retell. I've seen a few but this is my favorite version.

Her Mad Hatter by Marie Hall - An Alice in Wonderland retelling. There's a level of corniness that comes with this book and the others in this series that all focus on different "bad boys" from fairy tales.
Snippet from synopsis:
"The Mad Hatter may have a voice and a body made for sex, but he takes no lovers. "

Gerard's Beauty by Marie Hall - Another Beauty and the Beast tale, but not how you'd think.
Snippet from the synopsis:
"A not so classic retelling of Beauty and the Beast, as seen through the eyes of the villain..."

Red and Her Wolf by Marie Hall - A very interesting and different take on Red Riding-hood.

Snippet from Synopsis:
"Ewan of the Blackfoot Clan is a wolf with a problem. He’s been sent to kill the Heartsong, but the moment he lays eyes on the blonde beauty he knows he’ll defy the evil fae he works for to claim Violet as his own."

    1. Same here. He was great. I actually kind of wanted more of that world and characters. I think there's potential for more, but at the same time, it was wrapped up nicely.

  3. I've never heard of these Marie Hall books, but they seem unintentionally hilarious... :)

    1. There is humor in them. I read them a couple years ago. If I re-read them, I'd probably feel the same way you do about them. I remember them being entertaining reads.

    1. I held off too, but it's really good. But since you waited, to start the series, that means you wont have to deal with the waiting for the final book, Winter, which comes out kind of soonish. :)
