Falling Away by Penelope Douglas

Fall Away #3
Book Summary via Goodreads:
Jaxon is the guy she’s supposed to avoid.
K.C. is the girl he won’t let get away....
       K. C. Carter has always followed the rules—until this year, when a mistake leaves her the talk of her college campus and her carefully arranged life comes crashing to a halt. Now she’s stuck in her small hometown for the summer to complete her court-ordered community service, and to make matters worse, trouble is living right next door.
Jaxon Trent is the worst kind of temptation and exactly what K.C. was supposed to stay away from in high school. But he never forgot her. She was the one girl who wouldn’t give him the time of day and the only one to ever say no. Fate has brought K.C. back into his life—except what he thought was a great twist of luck turns out to be too close for comfort. As the bond between them grows, he discovers that convincing K.C. to get out from her mother’s shadow is hard, but revealing the darkest parts of his soul is nearly impossible.…

Now, I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to Jax and K.C's story, but I gotta say that I think I may have liked it more than Jared and Tate's story.

K.C was always kind of a mystery in the other books. She seemed to always be on edge someway or another. Her motivations never made sense before, but they do now. I really felt for her, and I understand how she could take someone back who cheated on her considering her home life. She wanted something stable.

Jax was definitely a mystery. All be it a different kind of mystery. His motivations were always clear, it was his methods that were kept a secret. And holy cheese balls, Jax sounds hot. I know, I know.. the character is 19 and I'm 28 but hell, read the book then tell me he doesn't sound hot.

I loved the flow of this story and the progression the characters took. Their personal development felt real. K.C finally standing up for herself against everyone that tried to control her, and Jax accepting himself, past and all.

The copy I read had a teaser for the next book, which is a continuation of Jared and Tate's story, and I'm not gonna lie. I really don't like where it started. I don't know if I can handle two of my favorite characters falling apart. I'm still gonna read it, I just hope it has a happy ending.
