Synopsis:
In post-apocalyptic America, Selah Chavez is crouched in long grass on a shore littered with the rusted metal remnants of a once-great city. It is the day before her eighteenth Born Remembrance, and she is hunting, though many people refuse to eat animal flesh, tainted by radiation during the Time of Sorrows. What Selah’s really after are Landers, mysterious people from a land across the big water who survive the delirium-inducing passage in small boats that occasionally crash against the shoreline. She knows she should leave the capture to the men, but Landers bring a good price from the Company and are especially prized if they keep the markings they arrive with.
Everything falls to pieces when the Lander Selah catches is stolen by her brothers–and Selah wakes up the next morning to find the Lander’s distinctive mark has suddenly appeared on her own flesh. Once the hunter, Selah is now one of the hunted, and she knows only one person who can help her–Bohdi Locke, the Lander her brothers hope to sell.

This book was really enjoyable. It still left a few things unanswered, like what exactly Landers are, are they aliens, or what? But I really don't mind that some things were left a mystery. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when reading this book. The book blurb hardly does the story any real justice. Though the first couple chapters I really hated Selah, she was kind of annoying, but she soon became an interesting character.

Her step-father and oldest brother are crazy, and I am glad they are hardly in the book, though I kind of expect to see the step-dad in future books, they wouldn't bother to reveal stuff about him if it wasn't going to be used or important later.

Bohdi is also a really good character as well, he is slightly more interesting than the MC. There are a lot of characters introduced in this book, and I'm not really sure how many of them are going to be important in later books. I am split on whether I want them to be brought up or not, since there were so many second-hand characters. Maybe in the next book, half of them will go missing or get killed off.

There were a couple problems I had with this book. While it was written in the third person, the transition between character focus could have been more smooth, it was a little sloppy. And, this could have just been an error with the file, but the letter 'F was missing in a lot of words if not all of them. Not sure how to fix that though.

I really liked this book and I am curious and excited to read the next book in the series.

  1. What genre would you put Thunder in? It just sounds like several things are going on and I would like to know what the main theme is.

  2. Thank you for hosting my book on your blog. Yes...it's YA dystopian. And I will bring the missing "f"'s up to Revell.
